Please clarify whether or not these events will be occurring this month of November, as I have heard and seen different information:
11/12 Hui Makua mtg 11/14 La Hana Makua 11/14 or 15 Gift of Giving at Windward Mall 11/22 Makahiki Maoli Festival at Kapiolani Park
If these are in fact events that need the help and support of the parents, please make sure we all know about them. Please clarify. Mahalo NUI!

Aloha kakou,
We just moved to Kaneohe from Big Island and I do not have any child care for my keiki (papa eha) on the kumu work day this Tuesday. I can not get off from my new job. Can anyone help us?

Maika''i papa 1& 2. Mahalo a nui loa to Hui Makua for providing the incentive for the halawai. It is great to see the turn out and support for the Hui Makua. This is the first time in four years, that the Hui Makua has been organized and is totally active. With the planned move to Ha'iku set for tentatively for summer of 2010, it is great to see Hui Makua in place. This group will be instrumental in KKoSMK's move and settling in.

Thanks so much for your participation in our site! Really great additions. I made some upgrades to what i thought you were trying to accomplish; I added "links" for easier navigation by the users. See if i got it right or need to change them.
Thanks again!

Mahalo for having these documents posted here. Some of the docs (Sept calendar & School/Family Success Partnerships) are not on the kula website. Is there a reason for that? Is there a way to link up the two sites for a one-stop shop--it would make it easier for families and less confusion as well. Mahalo.

Aloha! Our school website is very complicated to post documents, which only our IT person is capable. So we agreed that it is better to get them out as soon as we can to our makua. I will ask our IT person to add a Hui Makua link to our website. MAHALO for the feedback, Im encouraged that we can continue to improve our communcation through something like this website.

mahalo!" Aloha, Future Hui Maku Meetings will be posted soon. They will not be on a set schedule but far enough in the future to be planned for. I would suggest becoming actively involved in one if the committees that will be announced at the first meeting! I know they will meet frequently.

Is there a way to link this Hui Makua website with the school website? Since there are calendars (official and current) and announcements on the school website as well. Less confusion and one stop shop to be connected to all info relative to Ke Kula ÿo Kamakau.
Hui Makua: This calendar says 6pm-7:30pm. The flyer says 5:30-7:30. Which is the correct time?
Oct Fall Break: This calendar has Hoi kakou i ke Kula on day 14 of Oct. I think that should be on day 13.

Aloha Brian:
Mahalo for the welcome and designing this awesome site! As I shared with you the other day, 9/24 is also our senior parent meeting.
However, I would like to ask if Hui Makua would consider defraying the cost of graduation this year (gym, $1,000.00; staging: $1,500.00 and 300 shairs: $300.00)
The senior parents initially secured Paliku Theater for free, but when we were notified last week that we will not be moving as scheduled on 1/8/10, Uo Mamo and na kumu deciddd to have it at the gym and we, the parents (senior) were told we are responsible for the cost.
In the past years, graduation was cushioned by grants and the past senior parents did not have to pay for it.
This year, we are also required to pay $400.00 in senior fees; the $75.00 registration; $50.00 yearbook and for their kihei, etc. Mahalo, Brian for organizing and leading the Hui Makua

Aloha Kimo,
Mahalo for your kind words. It was brought to our attention that the funds were required for this years graduation. We initially had created a committee for this event but were dissuaded from going forward as we were told there was already a committee formed.
Having said that, we would be proud to help in any way we can! We have already committed resources to a special "Graduation fundraising committee" under the "Fundraising Committee" Chair's responsibilties. We will be recruiting volunteers at the upcoming meeting.
We will work with your hui to meet the goals you set out and I'm sure we will have a successful and joyous graduation this year.
With Aloha,

Yes thanks. The fliers began going out today in the parking lot pick up. The rest were folded and are to be disbursed to the keiki tomorrow. One-Call has been set up by Meahilahila and should go out tomorrow. We plan to follow up with reminders next week. Sorry for the late notice, we really got caught up in the details of organizing the meeting. I think everyone is doing such a great job, I'm really excited about next Thursday!! Hope to see you there!!

I dont beleive that the kumu should have a "vote" on the Parent board, I think it should only be parents. Also wondering if the kumu posiiton should be broadened to Kula representation--- still without a vote. I appreciate the board's efforts to not send me to another meeting, but I would prefer that I attend these meetings, so that I can ensure coordination among hui makua, uo mamo and the school. Please let me know what you think of this idea. I cannot assign a kumu (due to union contract) I can only ask for a volunteer to attend these meetings-- which i can do if you prefer to have a kumu. MAHALO, MAHALO, MAHALO for getting this going I am really excited about the possibilties of this group!

Mahalo Marci for your input. The Kumu rep as stated above is "not a board member" and has no vote. As for me, the kumu rep is not required to be at any meetings. The kumu rep is just our conduit to the kumu in case we questions or the kumu have requests of us. So we welcome whatever decision you make.
