Hi Bryan-
Sorry for the delay, But here is the order in which the board has required me to cut in order to get to a balanced budget…
1. Breakfast Service
2. Huakaÿi
3. Papa Au
4. Kuÿi ÿAi
5. Class Budget
6. Bus use
7. Student Achievement Awards
8. Gym use
9. Atherton Hall use
10. Puka Kula
11. ÿAiaola
12. Yearbook
13. Lunch Service
14. Papa ÿölelo Hawaiÿi
15. A-plus
16. Van Use
17. January 8th 2010 Anniversary/School Opening
18. Summer/Intercession tutoring
Please note that this means the “school” will no longer have these expense in the budget therefore if they are to continue it would be from other sources like the hui makua, makua- pay the costs directly, or by class fundraisers. Also note that the Hui makau CAN write for grants on their own to support these efforts and have the KAI LOA be the fiscal sponsor. While I am happy to help the hui makua in this area, I cannot take the lead on doing the proposal, just guiding someone who is willing to do it.
AS for the teacher rep, can you please email me what you imagine this person to report on? The more detail the better, I will place this on our weekly leadership agenda so that we can discuss who would be best suited for this. My understanding is that for them to just be there to report, but not stay for the entire meeting—unless they are a parent as well.
Mahalo for taking on this venture….I look forward to having a strong hui makua, especially in these hard times.
