Board President

1. Ensures the effective action of the board in governing and
supporting the organization, and oversees board affairs. Acts as the
representative of the board as a whole, rather than as an individual supervisor
to staff.
2. Speaks to the media and the community on behalf of the organization (as does the executive director); represents the agency in the community.
3. Recommends to the board, which committees are to be established. Seeks volunteers for committees and coordinates individual board members assignments. Makes sure each committee has a chairperson, and stays in touch with chairpersons to be sure that their work is carried out; identifies committee recommendations that should be presented to the full board. Determines whether executive committee meetings are necessary and convenes the committee accordingly.
4. Ensures that board matters are handled properly, including
preparation of pre-meeting materials, committee functioning, and
recruitment and orientation of new board members.

Vice President Job Description:


1. Acts as the president in his or her absence; assists the president on his/her specified duties outlined in their job description
2. Frequently assigned to a special area of responsibility, such as membership, media, annual dinner, facility or personnel.
3. Is a member of the Board
4. Performs Presidents responsibilities when the President cannot be available. (See President job description)
5. Report's to the Board President
6. Works closely with the President and other staff
7. Participates closely with the President to develop and implement transition plans

8. Performs other responsibilities as assigned by the Board

Board Secretary Job Description

1.Is a member of the Board
2.Maintains records of the board and ensures effective management of organizations records
3. Manages minutes of the board meetings
4. Ensures minutes are distributed to members in a timely manner after each meeting
5. Is sufficiently familiar with legal documents (articles, by-laws, IRS letters, etc.) to note applicability during meetings.


Board Treasurer Job Description

1. Manages the board’s review of, and action related to, the board’s financial responsibilities. May work directly with a bookkeeper or other staff in developing and implementing financial procedures and systems.
2. Ensures that appropriate financial reports are made available to the board. Regularly reports to board on key financial events, trends, concerns, and assessment of fiscal health.
3. Chairs the Finance committee and prepares agendas for meetings, including a year-long calendar of issues. In larger organizations, a separate Audit Committee may be chaired by a different person.
4. recommends to the board whether the organization should have an audit. If so, selects and meets annually with the auditor in conjunction with the Finance and/or Audit Committees.
5. Ensures, through the finance Committee, sound management and maximization of cash and investments.
6. Is a member of the Board.
7. Manages finances of the organization.
8. Administers fiscal matters of the organization.
9. Provides annual budget to the board for members’ approval.
10. Ensures development and board review of financial policies and procedures.

Kumu Representative Job Description

1.Is a member of the Board
2. Reports on the needs of the Kumu and help organize/prioritize lists and issues pertaining to the Kumu
3. Attends some but not all the board meetings.
4. Act as liaison between the Kumu and the Board.

Uo Mamo Representative Job Description

1. Is not a member of the Board
2. Carries information to and from Uo Mamo to facilitate the needs of the makua.
3. Representative(s) attends Hui Makua Board meetings as needed to update the Board as to the goings on with Uo Mamo .
4. Acts on behalf of the makua.

I dont beleive that the kumu should have a "vote" on the Parent board, I think it should only be parents. Also wondering if the kumu posiiton should be broadened to Kula representation--- still without a vote. I appreciate the board's efforts to not send me to another meeting, but I would prefer that I attend these meetings, so that I can ensure coordination among hui makua, uo mamo and the school. Please let me know what you think of this idea. I cannot assign a kumu (due to union contract) I can only ask for a volunteer to attend these meetings-- which i can do if you prefer to have a kumu. MAHALO, MAHALO, MAHALO for getting this going I am really excited about the possibilties of this group!
